Most people believe VET leads to <strong>real job opportunities and solid careers<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>85%<\/strong> say VET gives useful <strong>technical skills<\/strong> for work<\/li>\n<li><strong>82%<\/strong> think it leads to actual <strong>job opportunities<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>66%<\/strong> believe VET leads to <strong>well\u2011paid jobs<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Over half of respondents say the main reason people choose VET is to <strong>start working and earning money sooner.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/employment-social-affairs.ec.europa.eu\/document\/download\/6fa1404f-4598-44cf-ac8a-a1bde90c845a_en?filename=IVET%20Attractiveness_SP569_infographic_en_v12.pdf\" class=\"ecl-link ecl-link--primary\">Read the key findings<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>High\u2011quality learning with clear pathways<\/h2>\n<p>VET combines classroom learning with practical experience to equip learners with the skills employers need. According to the survey:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>73%<\/strong> see VET as offering <strong>high\u2011quality learning<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>79%<\/strong> say VET is delivered by <strong>competent teachers<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>78%<\/strong> think VET benefits from <strong>modern infrastructure<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Many people also value the chances VET offers to progress and grow.<\/p>\n<p>Two\u2011thirds (67%) believe VET provides routes into higher education, and 64% see opportunities to study abroad as an extra benefit.<\/p>\n<p>When deciding whether to choose VET, Europeans say they are mainly influenced by <strong>job prospects and earnings<\/strong> (53%), as well as <strong>advice from family<\/strong> (35%) and <strong>teachers or counsellors<\/strong> (28%).<\/p>\n<h2>Areas where VET needs to improve<\/h2>\n<p>The survey shows that people still see limits to what VET can offer. Half of respondents think VET <strong>doesn\u2019t do enough to teach basic skills<\/strong>, such as reading, writing and digital skills, or broader skills like communication and critical thinking.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gender stereotypes also remain a problem.<\/strong> 71% agree that women are often steered towards general education rather than technical subjects, which narrows their choices and career options.<\/p>\n<h2>Progress on EU goals and future action<\/h2>\n<p>A new report on the <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A32020H1202%2801%29\">2020 Council Recommendation on VET<\/a> highlights how vocational education helps tackle labour shortages and skills gaps in the EU.<\/p>\n<p>The report shows the EU has already <strong>met two key targets<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>66%<\/strong> of recent VET graduates have <strong>gained work\u2011based learning experience<\/strong> (above the 60% goal)<\/li>\n<li><strong>80.2%<\/strong> of VET graduates <strong>are employed<\/strong> (close to the 82% target)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To build on this progress and respond to growing demand for VET\u2011trained workers, the report calls for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>more training for teachers<\/li>\n<li>closer collaboration with businesses<\/li>\n<li>more opportunities for VET learners to study or train abroad<\/li>\n<li>stronger focus on skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>better
