Its factory lost new orders after its contract with Mercedes\u2011Benz ended in 2025, at a time when the global car industry was slowing down. In November 2025, the company announced the <strong>dismissal of 235 workers and the temporary lay\u2011off of an additional 860 employees<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>What the funding will do<\/h2>\n<p>The proposed <strong>support package is worth \u20ac683 850<\/strong>, of which<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>60% (\u20ac410 310)<\/strong> will be covered by the Commission\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>40% (\u20ac273 540)<\/strong> will be covered by Turku Employment Region, the local public employment service<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The funding will <strong>help dismissed workers<\/strong> through<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Career counselling<\/strong>, guidance and job search support<\/li>\n<li>Training in <strong>new professional and transferable skills<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Recruitment incentives<\/strong> for employers<\/li>\n<li><strong>Financial support <\/strong>for business start-ups<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These measures aim to help workers <strong>gain new skills and return to work<\/strong>. Finland began supporting the workers in March 2026 and the EGF can cover these costs retroactively.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ecl-file ecl-file--thumbnail\" data-ecl-file=\"\" id=\"ecl-file-942971185\">\n<div class=\"ecl-file__container\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ecl-file__image\" src=\"https:\/\/employment-social-affairs.ec.europa.eu\/profiles\/contrib\/ewcms\/themes\/ewcms_theme\/images\/default_file_icon.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Next steps<\/h2>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-enhance\">To take effect, the proposal needs approval from the European Parliament and the Council. It requires a simple majority in the Parliament and a qualified majority in the Council.<\/p>\n<h2>About the EGF<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/employment-social-affairs.ec.europa.eu\/policies-and-activities\/funding\/european-globalisation-adjustment-fund-displaced-workers-egf_en\">EGF<\/a> supports workers who <strong>lose their jobs, helping them improve their skills and find new employment<\/strong>. It also backs broader upskilling in European companies, contributing to better quality jobs and a more competitive European economy.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2007, the EGF has supported <strong>more than 185 000 people across 20 EU countries<\/strong>, providing \u20ac737 million. This EU funding adds to national measures that help people back into work.<\/p>\n<p>In May 2026, <strong>the scope of the EGF was widened<\/strong>. Workers at risk of losing their jobs can now receive training to improve their chances of staying employed in new business areas or finding other work. Companies going through restructuring can request EGF support for employees at risk of redundancy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/employment-social-affairs.ec.europa.eu\/news\/commission-launches-skills-guarantee-support-workers-transition-learning-new-skills-strategic-2025-11-27_en\">In November 2025<\/a>, the Commission launched a <a href=\"https:\/\/employment-social-affairs.ec.europa.eu\/policies-and-activities\/skills-and-qualifications\/union-skills\/european-skills-guarantee_en\">Skills guarantee pilot<\/a> to support workers in transition by helping them acquire new skills.
